Gateway is an authorised deposit-taking institution and operates under the same strict standards as other Australian banks, overseen by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

Prepaid Funeral

Prepaid funerals allow you to arrange the funeral you want and pay for it at today’s prices. You can choose a funeral director and cemetery, plan the details of the service and pay for all expenses, so you get on with your life knowing that your affairs are in order.

If you want to arrange a prepaid funeral but don’t want to decide on the details, you can pay for the funeral and leave the details in your family’s hands. A prepaid funeral loan is an investment with Gateway Credit Union and can only be withdrawn for funeral expenses, with strict documentation required. The interest you earn on your account is designed to cover all price rises that may occur in the future, so you won’t need to pay anything else in the future.

Funeral Savings Plan

A funeral savings plan encourages you to set a financial target and save a fixed amount for your funeral. This gives you peace of mind, knowing that your savings will cover the cost of your funeral, so there won’t be any financial pressure placed on your family.

Your funeral director will help you work out the costs involved in planning a funeral according to your wishes, then cap your Funeral Saver Account at that amount. That way you only pay for you need without unnecessary ongoing payments. A Funeral Saver Account can be recorded in your will or used to pay for a prepaid funeral service.

Funeral Loan

With a Gateway Funeral Loan, you don’t have to wait to receive insurance benefits in order to pay for unexpected funeral expenses. You’ll receive a lump sum payment straight away and can repay the loan over time.

Funeral Loans can be approved at short notice and give your family relief from financial obligations during a difficult time. You’ll still be able to use the  funeral director of your choice and plan the funeral according to the last wishes of your family member or friend.

  • A redraw facility is available to withdraw additional payments via online banking. Minimum redraw is $250.
  • Minimum loan amount is $3,000 and maximum is $15,000.
  • Loan term is up to 5 years.
  • Pay principal plus interest either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
  • There are no restrictions on additional payments, so you can pay off your loan faster and save on interest costs.
  • No exit fees.
  • Loan setup costs, government charges and other fees may apply.

Pre-arranged Funeral

A pre-arranged funeral is when you plan the funeral that you want, but don’t pay for it now. The details of your funeral service are confidential and kept on file until the time of death, when the instructions are then carried out with the approval of your executor or next of kin.

The details of your pre-arranged funeral can be as simple or comprehensive as you like. However, it’s important to note that pre-arranged funerals are not legally binding or paid for in advance. They are simply a record of your wishes.

We are happy to discuss your pre-arranged funeral plans and keep a record of your wishes on file for the future. Our team of legal experts can also help you create a will, to ensure your wishes are bound by law and carried out exactly as you’ve planned.


Funeral Insurance

Funeral insurance involves paying premiums to an insurance company over a number of years. After death, the insurance company pays out the agreed amount to the executor or next of kin. Funeral Alliance Solutions doesn’t offer funeral insurance, as we believe you’ll pay more in premiums than the cost of the funeral itself. It also carries a number of risks, such as increasing premiums as you get older and no refunds if the policy is cancelled by you or the insurance company for any reason.

You may not get your choice of funeral director and there is no guarantee that your funeral will be planned according to your wishes. The payment to your executor or next-of-kin may not even be used to pay for the funeral.
